Security Agency SDR® opens new office in The Hague for spin-off WeAware+™

“WeAware+™ is an innovative addition to the West Holland Safety & Security sector”

The Hague, 24 February 2016 – At the recent Mobile World Congress 2016, the Netherlands Business Support Office (NBSO) Barcelona, together with the City of The Hague, The Hague Security Delta and InnovationQuarter, organized the BIG-Small startup event. During this telecommunications event in Barcelona, Spain, Deputy Mayor Ingrid van Engelshoven announced the establishment of WeAware+™ B.V. on the HSD Campus in The Hague, The Netherlands. WeAware+™ B.V. is a spin-off of the internationally renowned security agency SDR©. The new WeAware+™ office was officially opened in The Hague with the presentation of a plaque to CEO Ran Cohen, and at the same time, the new WeAware+™ safety and security app was launched.

Together, an increased sense of security

We are exposed to problems on a daily basis that can affect our sense of personal safety, whether at work, during an event, traveling by public transportation, or near our homes. In fact, a citizen can make a positive contribution to increasing the sense of security by reporting threatening and suspicious situations. Prevention is paramount. Thus, real security, and the perception of safety, are provided not only by security professionals, but also by citizens who can make an important contribution.

WeAware+™ B.V. aims to work with local citizens to make living and working environments safer.  WeAware+™ B.V. is a spin-off of the leading international safety & security agency SDR©, which advises government and industry worldwide, and helps to recognize threatening situations at an early stage. The startup has developed a special collective awareness app to help prevent undesirable situations, criminal activity, and its social and economic consequences. The WeAware+™ app allows for increased citizen participation, and reduces the distance between citizens and professionals, such as government and police.

Ran Cohen, CEO of WeAware+™ B.V. stated: “By bearing joint responsibility for a safe environment, it not only increases real security, but also enhances the feeling of safety.”

Notifications via WeAware+™ app

The WeAware+™ application uses the Search Detect React® (SDR) method in such a way that anyone can deliver real-time information. The WeAware+™ community is a network of citizens, also called human sensors, who can directly report information, including their local GPS location. WeAware+™ lowers the threshold so that everyone becomes capable of sending reports and receiving notifications from the WeAware+™ cloud. By communicating in this way, citizen participation becomes crowd-wisdom.

Based on the GPS location, indicators can be constantly updated, so that a professional can give a proper indication of what should happen on the ground. Both citizens and professionals can announce an early stage of ‘danger’, which can help to prevent crime and its consequences.

The information that is shared by citizens through the WeAware+™ app is centrally collected and analyzed. The message results are quickly visible in the WeAware+™ model, so that a decision can be immediately made by professionals about whether or not to proceed with action.

By assigning different ‘values’ of information from the different user groups, and by collecting more and better information, a professional can immediately develop a reliable framework for preventive action, including a better (collective) approach.

The beta version of the WeAware+™ app is available today free of charge and can be downloaded via the Apple App Store (iOS) and the Google Play Store (Android).

Asset for the security cluster

The establishment this year of WeAware+™ in The Hague came about with the help of InnovationQuarter, The Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency (NFIA), and the City of The Hague.

“We congratulate Ran Cohen and his team wholeheartedly with the establishment of his new business WeAware+™ on the HSD Campus, and the launch of the app for security prevention,” said Chris van Voorden, Director Foreign Investments at InnovationQuarter. “WeAware+™ is an innovative addition to the West Holland Safety & Security sector, and our team is ready to assist with future collaborations or a possible scale-up.”
