Chemport Europe for Green Chemistry Launched in Northern Netherlands

Offering a dynamic ecosystem for companies committed to a greener chemical sector

Green chemistry incubabor Chemport Europe was launched in the Northern Netherlands.

Chemport Europe is the incubator for green chemistry. It meets all the conditions that enable the sustainable chemistry of the future to develop and flourish. Chemport Europe offers a dynamic ecosystem for companies committed to a greener chemical sector. This new ecosystem was launched in the Northern Netherlands on 7 February 2017.

Everything will be green: raw materials and energy

Crops, such as potatoes, sugar beet and wheat, are required to develop sustainable chemicals and products. The Dutch agricultural sector has the highest yield per square meter and is extremely efficient and highly organized.

Connection: chains and access

In Chemport Europe chemical companies can link up with existing chains, ensuring that the chemical sector in this ecosystem will become more sustainable and greener at a rapid rate. This creates a circular economy, because different companies operate in the same sector and exchange raw materials – intermediate chemicals around Delfzijl, polymers and fiber around Emmen. Companies that locate here can link up with nitrogen and hydrogen networks and with a centralized wastewater purification system. The existing infrastructure with ports, airports, railways and motorways guarantees access to global markets for purchase and sales.

Working on the future: knowledge and talent

Groningen University and various universities of applied science work together intensively in Chemport Europe. There are testing sites where science fuels innovation, creating new ideas for sustainable products and applications. There are various intermediate vocational courses where young people with talent are prepared for jobs in logistics, agribusiness, the energy sector or the chemical industry. These talents will prove important to the future of green chemistry.

Shared ambition: quick decisions

Chemport Europe welcomes entrepreneurs with ambitions to capitalize on the opportunities provided by green chemistry. The shared ambition of companies, government and universities facilitates quick decisions and smooth permit processes. The environmental movement also supports the transition towards green chemistry.
