Syngenta to Invest 21 Million Euros in Dutch R&D Site

Leading Swiss agriculture firm, Syngenta, has announced that it is to invest more than 21 million euros at its existing site in Enkhuizen, North Holland.

Leading Swiss agriculture firm, Syngenta, has announced that it is to invest more than 21 million euros at its existing site in Enkhuizen, in the Dutch province of North Holland. The investment covers the establishment of a new R&D Technology Center for vegetable seeds, plus the modernization of the current production facilities. This decision forms part of a phased, multi-year program by Syngenta to invest in its high-quality vegetable seed business.

Latest technologies

“Our investment in Enkhuizen reflects a growing demand worldwide for vegetable seeds.” stated David Morgan, Syngenta’s Head of Vegetable Seeds. “The new research and production facilities will benefit from the latest technologies and will enhance even further our innovation capabilities in world markets for brassica, leafy vegetables, tomatoes and peppers.”

Peter Acda, Site Head at Syngenta Enkhuizen, commented: “This investment decision reflects the great strategic importance of our site in Enkhuizen in the research and development and production of vegetable seeds. The infrastructure enhancements at the site concern new glasshouses, growth rooms and production capabilities.”

150-year link

Syngenta develops innovative crop solutions and currently employs some 28,00 people in over 90 countries. With more than 550 employees, the Enkhuizen site is Syngenta’s largest vegetable seed facility throughout its global operations. The company has a long history in the region, dating back to the establishment of Sluis & Groot, in the neighbouring town of Andijk, in 1867. In the intervening period, the company has grown into one of the leading players in the plant breeding industry. Today, Syngenta employs more than 800 people at seven locations in the Netherlands and, in mid-2017, the company will celebrate its 150-year presence in the Netherlands.
