When a company talks about ‘partnering for long-term success’, then 150 years of history goes a long way to reassure that it can walk the walk. Part of the Tata Group, TCS has more than 353,000 of the world’s best-trained consultants from over 118 nationalities operating in more than 45 countries, TCS is among the top technology firms in the world and has been recognized by Brand Finance as one of the Big 4 Global IT Services Brands. Building on more than 45 years of experience, the company’s full services portfolio, Digital Capabilities, Consulting and Business Process Outsourcing services add value to global businesses.
Launchpad for growth
TCS set up its European operations back in 1992, when it established it’s Continental Europe Headquarters in Amsterdam. In the intervening period, the Netherlands region has become one of TCS’ highest growth markets across Europe.
Throughout what they refer to as their ‘pioneering’ period, TCS enjoyed consistent support from the local authorities in order to make the transition of its associates into the Netherlands as smooth as possible. This included facilities such as the Expat Center in Amsterdam, as well as the business and community events organized by Invest in Holland partner amsterdam inbusiness (aib).
Business benefits
TCS has benefitted from the unique locational features offered by the Netherlands, and lists factors such as: excellent logistics and infrastructure – in both transport and telecommunications; ease of setting-up business, in many different respects; central location within key markets in Europe; access to excellent human capital with good language capabilities; attractive living conditions, as well as a favorable fiscal regime.
Amit Kapur, TCS Director & Head, Benelux, explains: “With a strategic location, being home to a talented workforce and having a strong appetite for innovation, the Netherlands offers a thriving investment scenario. It is for these reasons that we decided to invest in this market over 2 decades back, and we continue to do so, as we see a strong potential for the future.”
From strength-to-strength
For TCS, the Netherlands has always been, and still is, a major growth region reflecting the European trend. The company has achieved impressive double-digit growth, together with high margins and strong cash-flow, and continues to focus on pushing growth. The company has grown in stature, today serving some 350 European clients from 21 locations across Europe. In addition to this, TCS has fostered partnerships with over 200 academic institutions, impacting more than 15,000 young Europeans.
As one of the first technology companies of Indian origin to set up its offices in the Netherlands, TCS’ engagement with the public authorities paved the way for many other companies that followed.
Model corporate citizen
As befits a company that was formed as far back as 1968, TCS is a model example of a well-assimilated organization. It is a member of several business and community associations supporting bilateral business; TCS is, for example, a patron member of the Netherlands India Chamber of Commerce- supporting the growth of the Netherlands-India business corridor. In 2011, TCS became the official technology partner and title sponsor of the TCS Amsterdam Marathon and has pledged support for the same until 2020 and since 2012, TCS supports cancer research at the Vrije Universiteit (VU) Cancer Center Amsterdam. TCS is a prime example of a global enterprise with a strong local focus.
