Integrated photonics in the Netherlands

As a pioneer in the manipulation of light and with a bright history of innovation, the Netherlands is at the forefront of the groundbreaking integrated photonics industry. We are set to enable new products and solutions across multiple markets and application domains. That’s why innovators in the integrated photonics field are joining our vibrant Dutch ecosystem.

A distinctive high-tech sector

The country is known worldwide for its highly dynamic environment for high-tech innovation, evident in the presence of large leading-edge innovative companies such as Philips. The high tech landscape spans large companies to start-ups, across many domains, in particular in the semiconductor field (ASML, NXP). With a proven track record in our high tech and semiconductor industries, as well as our leading global R&D in waveguide technologies, the Dutch integrated photonics sector has been building in prominence over the last few decades.

The Netherlands offers a complete Integrated Photonics value chain

The Netherlands is also home to many companies and knowledge institutions regarded as leaders in the field of integrated photonics, each with their own distinctive technological propositions. They are the foundation of a strong Dutch industry cluster that is offering a complete value chain for the PIC technology platforms InP and SiN. For SiP there is a close collaboration with IMEC in Belgium.

A European hub for the integrated photonics industry

PhotonDelta, a European network of high-tech companies, knowledge institutions and government, acts as the growth accelerator for the Dutch integrated photonics industry. Based in the Netherlands, PhotonDelta is an end-to-end value chain for photonic chips that designs, develops, and manufactures innovative solutions that contribute to a better world.

Together with PhotonicsNL, PhotonDelta is hosting the NL Pavilion in Hall F of the Photonics West Exhibition. This prime location will highlight the exceptional strength and capabilities of the Dutch high-tech sector, showcasing the Dutch photonics value chain and promote impactful networking opportunities. Meet up with Dutch companies like ALUVIA Photonics, LioniX International, PHIX Photonics Assembly, QDI systems, Rapid Photonics, ScantinelPhotonics and many more. Make new and important connections, find opportunities for collaboration and business growth, and learn more about expanding your business in the Netherlands.

Photonics Innovation Day on January 27

PhotonDelta, in collaboration with PhotonicsNL and Plug and Play, will organize the Photonics Innovation Day on Monday, 27 January 2025. Prior to SPIE Photonics West, this event aims to strengthen North America’s photonic chip ecosystem and build new collaborations with international markets and cutting-edge technologies.
