The South African tech company AURA has established its head office in the Netherlands to further expand its innovation. AURA has developed a smart technology platform behind on-demand security and medical response services. The company will further develop its Intellectual Property (IP) in the Dutch IT & Tech ecosystem to serve its customers around the world.

IT solutions for safety and security

AURA operates a smart emergency dispatch platform that connects individuals in distress to the nearest vetted private security or medical responders. The company’s mission is to make access to life-saving services seamless, borderless, and available through a single API.

The platform can be integrated into consumer-facing services via API, WhatsApp, apps, or IoT devices IoT devices like smartwatches and connected cars, allowing businesses to offer on-demand emergency support as a value-added service.

In promoting its technology, AURA says it aligns with broader global development goals. It says its impact contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals around health (SDG 3) and safe communities (SDG 11).

Rapid growth and expansion

AURA has grown rapidly since its inception in 2016. The company has secured millions of dollars in funding from investors around the world, enabling its expansion into East Africa, the UK and the US. The company says that having its IP and offices in the Netherlands has contributed to interest from investors.

AURA recently secured €13.5 million (approximately $14.5 million) in a Series B funding round,  marking a major milestone in the company’s global expansion plans.

With this new funding, AURA plans to accelerate its growth into the United States and build a global “clearing house” for emergency response — a universal dispatch system that connects users to nearby help across geographic borders, all via a single API.

Support from the Invest in Holland network

In the Netherlands, AURA is located in Amsterdam. The company was assisted in its location search by the Invest in Holland network, including the Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency South African office.
