Make impact in the field of regenerative medicine in the Netherlands, Europe’s connected life sciences metropolis. The Netherlands’ world-class life sciences & health ecosystem provides companies with ample opportunity to find success. Not only ranks the Netherlands among the top 5 in the world in the field of regenerative medicine, but the country is one of the few places in Europe where (stem) cell therapy is also applied and developed clinically.
Owned by the Leiden University Medical Center (LUMC), NECSTGEN, the Netherlands Center for the Clinical Advancement of Stem Cell and Gene Therapies, is the largest non-profit stem cell and gene therapy facility in the Netherlands, and one of the largest facilities in Europe. In the NECSTGEN facility researchers and startups from Europe and beyond translate research and early-stage clinical programs into patient treatments.
With neurodegenerative disorders being among this century’s major health care challenges, the development of treatments for the degenerative processes is taking a flight in the Netherlands with foreign companies joining the Dutch ecosystem. A prime example is U.S.-based QurAlis. The company opened its European headquarters in Leiden where it is developing precision medicines for neurodegenerative diseases like amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Committed to making a global impact, QurAlis and the Dutch ecosystem are building a healthier world together through innovative biotechnological advancements.
Other global companies like Instant NanoBiosensors, have also established a European presence in the Netherlands. The Taiwan-based diagnostic technology company has located in Utrecht from where it will continue to advance its technology aimed at ultra-sensitive blood biomarkers, particularly in Alzheimer’s disease and related neurodegenerative conditions diagnostics.
