Hazera Opens High-Tech R&D Greenhouse in the Netherlands
Facility will advance innovative breeding of high quality, disease resistant tomatoes
The global seeds company Hazera recently opened its new high-tech R&D greenhouse in the Netherlands, marking a key step in its goal to become a leader in the high-tech tomato industry. The R&D greenhouse aims to enhance Hazera’s research capabilities, focusing on developing tomato varieties with strong disease resistance high yield and excellent taste.
Hazera has been active in the Dutch agrifood ecosystem for more than two decades. The company is dedicated to developing improved varieties of vegetable crops and to producing, processing, marketing and selling a broad range of vegetable seeds. Its products and services are the basis for the business activities of professional growers and plant raisers all over the world.
Contributing innovation to the Dutch agrifood value chain
The seed propagation sector is an important part of the value chain in the agrifood sector in the Netherlands – producing new varieties of vegetable seeds that are more resilient to climate change and resistant to (new) pests while offering increased yields for growers.
Hazera’s new greenhouse in Made is repurposed from an existing commercial operation, which aligns with Hazera’s commitment to sustainability. This facility will allow Hazera to refine its breeding techniques. By leveraging advanced technology and expertise in breeding, Hazera aims to help growers overcome challenges and improve the quality of their crops.
In its announcement, Hazera said: “The Netherlands, as a hub for high-tech tomato production, provides the ideal setting for this initiative, and Hazera envisions its new greenhouse as a vital tool for driving innovation and growth in the global high-tech tomato market.”
Hazera’s CEO, Ofer Peleg, introduced the new High-Tech R&D Greenhouse as “a major milestone for Hazera activities in the Netherlands, and one more step for our long-term Dutch-Israeli commitment.”
