Michael Lewis Company Breaks Ground on European Headquarters in the Netherlands
The worldwide distributor of aircraft meals and aviation supplies has begun construction on its new European headquarters and distribution center in the Netherlands
Michael Lewis Company (MLCo) has officially begun construction on its new distribution center and European headquarters in the Netherlands. The U.S.-based company is a dedicated food and equipment distributor for the global airlines industry. It will utilize its European headquarters and distribution facility in the Netherlands to expertly distribute its products across Europe. In addition, the facilities will be located at the Nieuw Prinsenland business park in Dinteloord, municipality of Steenbergen.
Slated open in early 2020, the distribution center is strategically located between the international ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp. Additionally, the facility will initially be 13,733 square meters (147,834 square feet) with a storage capacity of 165,212 cubic meters (5,831,164 cubic feet).
“This location was chosen very deliberately after a long and thorough preliminary investigation,” says Rien den Hartog, Director of Michael Lewis Company Europe B.V. Rien den Hartog also added, “The distribution center is strategically located on the A4, between the international ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp, connected by the Scheldt-Rhine Canal. From this unique location, MLCo Europe offers a multi-temperature distribution network in a professional manner throughout Europe and beyond.”
“The distribution center is built for the future. As soon as the business activities develop further, we are prepared to expand the building by 40%. ”The ultramodern distribution center consists of various conditioned rooms, such as freezer rooms, cold rooms and storage for unconditioned goods, all of which are equipped with the latest technological innovations,” added den Hartog.
MLCo Europe is registered as an “Authorized supplier of aviation supplies” and meets the strictest European requirements in the field of aviation safety. Naturally, the building will have the required customs permits, so that it fully meets the delivery requirements of the recipients at European international airports.
The new European Distribution Center will be operational at the beginning of 2020.
De Boer Staalbouw B.V. from Leek is responsible for the construction of the entire complex. Michael Lewis Company thanks the municipality of Steenbergen, the development company REWIN West-Brabant from Breda and the NFIA (Netherlands Foreign Investment Agency) for their contributions to the planning and realization.
The family-owned company from Chicago was founded in 1928. Since 1994, the distribution specialist has also been active in Europe, where it now serves 119 international airports in 23 countries. In North America, MLCo delivers for airlines and suppliers at more than 200 airports.
