The Japanese chemicals technology company Teijin Aramid, producer of Twaron fiber, has announced it is increasing its production capacity in the Netherlands. It will step up production in two factories in Delfzijl and Emmen to meet growing market demand.

Chemicals sector in the Netherlands

Delfzijl is the production site for monomer and polymer and Teijin’s plant in Emmen is used for spinning. Together they employ some 1,000 people in the chemicals sector in the Netherlands. The production increase is expected to result in a couple of dozen new jobs in the region, the company reports.

Reducing CO2 emissions

The expansion is part of Teijin’s aim to reinforce its position as market leader which includes a 25% capacity increase by 2022. Teijin will use the capacity increase as an opportunity to invest in new technologies that reduce CO2 emissions.

High performance chemical materials

Twaron is a versatile product that enables innovation ranging from car tires and air cargo containers, to heat-resistant clothing and space crafts. Twaron products are in high demand due to their lightweight, durable and strong features. These aspects also allow Teijin Aramid to provide its customers with solutions that enable them to be more sustainable.

“As the industry leader, we continue to invest in production developments to ensure innovators in a range of industries can continue to push boundaries”, commented Gert Frederiks, CEO and President of Teijin Aramid.

Sustainable solutions for chemicals customers

“At the same time, we want to push our own boundaries, and use this opportunity to modernize our own production sites with a sustainable approach. Our end goal is to have a sustainable and circular aramid supply chain,” Frederiks said.

Teijin aims to be more energy efficient, by being part of the energy transition movement and using increasingly green raw materials. It also aims to continue providing its customers with sustainable solutions by offering Twaron.
