UK-based fintech Privalgo acquires Dutch EMI licence, enabling serving clients across the EU

UK‑based fintech Privalgo has secured its Dutch Electronic Money Institution (EMI) licence from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB), marking a key milestone in the company’s European growth strategy. The licence approval enables Privalgo to issue electronic money, provide payment accounts, and execute payment transactions under one of Europe’s most respected regulatory frameworks. With the licence now in place, Privalgo has formally launched Privalgo B.V. in Amsterdam, its new European entity serving clients across the EU.

Strong regulatory environment and location benefits

Privalgo’s decision to establish its European base in the Netherlands was shaped by several factors.  A key reason was the strong reputation and credibility of DNB, with a combination of strict oversight and constructive, forward‑looking supervision. Operating under one of Europe’s most advanced and transparent financial regulatory systems strengthens the company’s ability to serve clients with security, compliance and confidence. Beyond the strong regulatory environment, the Netherlands’ globally oriented workforce was considered a major benefit too. With a rich pool of talent within the fintech ecosystem and English as a common language of business, the company selected the Netherlands as an excellent place for the UK company to grow its European team. These were paired with the strategic location of Amsterdam itself. Perfectly situated to be within easy reach of clients and partners across the continent and enabling access via the EU passporting mechanism.

Dan Biggs, CEO, Privalgo said: “Amsterdam offers everything we need to serve the European market — a strategic location, an international business culture, and a forward‑thinking regulatory environment. The DNB is known for its constructive yet rigorous supervision, encouraging responsible innovation. The city’s talent pool, connectivity, and thriving financial ecosystem make it the perfect base for our EU operations.”

The Netherlands: a launchpad for fintechs

Known for its strong financial heritage and forward-looking approach, the Netherlands has established itself as a prominent fintech center in Europe. Privalgo joins a Dutch ecosystem that currently comprises over 860 fintech companies, ranging from innovative startups to international enterprises. The broader Dutch tech ecosystem is also one of the strongest in Europe – and one of the most lucrative, with a total valuation of more than €240 billion.

Looking Ahead

The establishment of Privalgo B.V. and the securing of its Dutch EMI licence represent a significant step in the company’s mission to expand its international payments and foreign exchange services across Europe. By choosing the Netherlands, Privalgo is positioning itself at the heart of one of Europe’s most dynamic fintech ecosystems.
