Pharmaceutical wholesaler Alliance Healthcare – a subsidiary of US-based Walgreens Boots Alliance – is developing a new, sustainable headquarters in Veghel, in combination with a state-of-the-art distribution center for its healthcare logistics brand Alloga. The companies’ XXL Pharma Logistics Distribution Center in the Netherlands will accelerate Alliance Healthcare and Alloga’s growth as market leaders in Europe.
“We are celebrating our 125th anniversary this year and we are growing steadily. Therefore, it is a good time to develop a modern, sustainable head office and distribution center for Alloga. With this we are ready for the future,” said Kalman Petro, Managing Director of Alliance Healthcare Netherlands.
Located at Foodpark Veghel, the facility will cover a surface area of more than 70,000 square-meters, featuring distribution space, offices and parking. Alloga and Alliance Healthcare will house their new distribution center and head office, respectively. The €65 million project is scheduled for completion by July 2022.
“Our new distribution center enables us to further shape Alloga’s rapid growth and provide logistics services for our pharmaceutical partners at the highest level,” said Thomas Morshuis, Managing Director of Alloga.
Hyper-modern facility for pharmaceuticals and healthcare logistics
True to the Netherlands’ forward-looking life sciences & health industry and logistics sector, the new project will meet high standards for pharmaceutical operations and distribution. The warehouse will meet all GDP requirements and enable secure storage of temperature-controlled pharmaceutical products via cooling and freezing cells. In addition, the site is being built in accordance with a TAPA-A-10 security certificate.
Alliance Healthcare and Alloga commit to Dutch sustainability ethos
Along with logistics innovation, Alliance Healthcare and Alloga will match the Dutch commitment to sustainability. The facility is designed to earn a BREEAM sustainability rating of “very good”. It will feature gasless, ‘all-electric’ climate installation, solar panels, triple high-efficiency glazing, controlled LED lighting and an energy monitoring system. In addition, employees will be able to use over 70 charging points for electric vehicles and three covered sheds for bicycles.
Water management and biodiversity are also a main focus of the location: an indigenous herb garden with water features and nesting boxes will be established on-site to promote integration with the existing natural ecosystem.
Preparing for the future of pan-European operations
The announcement of the new headquarters and distribution center in Veghel comes at a critical time for international companies like Alliance Healthcare and Alloga which have pan-European operations. The COVID-19 pandemic has illuminated the need for companies to establish production and warehouse facilities in centrally located countries like the Netherlands in order to distribute life-saving products throughout Europe. Consequently, an investment in the Netherlands is an investment in tomorrow.
