MSD Animal Health Opens Advanced Vaccine Production Facility in the Netherlands

The leader in veterinary medicine grows its facility in Brabant, furthering innovative health solutions

Pharmaceutical company MSD Animal Health has opened a new state-of-the-art production facility for animal vaccines in the Brabant region of the Netherlands. Located in Boxmeer, this site is the largest facility worldwide for the development and production of animal vaccines. In fact, 55 billion doses per year will be produced here.

“The facility further expanded our presence in the region and brought new state-of-the-art technology in-house. This investment reflects our ambition to be a leader in innovative medicines, vaccines and technology to advance animal health,” said Rick DeLuca, Global Director of MSD Animal Health.

MSD Animal Health has a long-standing presence working on animal vaccines in Boxmeer. In fact, the company supplies 100 different vaccines from Boxmeer to more than 140 countries. It will also celebrate its 25th anniversary of the location in 2024.

Present at this opening were Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs and Climate Policy Micky Adriaansens and NFIA Commissioner Hilde van der Meer.

“Innovation contributes to our future economy,” said Minister Adriaansens. “This new MSD vaccine factory shows that the Dutch Life Science & Health sector is leading in Europe. Products are made here that contribute to the protection of human and animal health.”

MSD is an innovator of intelligent technologies such as identification, traceability and monitoring. The company’s R&D serves veterinarians, livestock farmers, pet owners, and governments. This vaccination reduces and prevents serious diseases in farm animals and domestic animals, thereby protecting human health.

MSD recognized for responsible entrepreneurship in the Netherlands

In addition to its latest expansion, MSD was the recipient of the Holland on the Hill Heineken Award in 2022. The award recognizes businesses that have made an impact on economic ties between the Netherlands and the U.S. Transatlantic cooperation remains vital in creating innovative solutions to address global challenges.

Dutch ambassador André Haspels recognized MSD at that time by saying, “Through shared Dutch and American values of entrepreneurship and collaboration, the company makes a meaningful difference in the lives of many around the world and is innovating solutions to challenges of tomorrow.”
