The Dutch energy sector is at the forefront of driving innovation and sustainability in the battery ecosystem, providing opportunities for international battery companies to accelerate their business in Europe. Companies including Heraeus, Zenon Energy, Autocraft and Sekisui have found fertile ground in the Netherlands and contribute valuable technology, expertise and facilities to enhance the Dutch ecosystem, positioning the Netherlands as a hub for battery innovation.
“Battery companies that want to establish a solid growth perspective with future-proof battery concepts are best off joining the Dutch battery ecosystem,” says Rutger van Poppel, program manager at Battery Competence Cluster – NL (BCC-NL). This organization sets out the strategic agenda for battery innovation in the Netherlands and develops public-private innovation projects in line with that strategy.

EV and automotive companies in the Netherlands benefit from numerous test & validation facilities for batteries and EVs across the country, as well as innovation centers for charging. The Netherlands has the highest density of charging stations in the EU, with 29.4% of all charging stations in the EU located in the country. Currently, 6% of passenger cars and 25% of personal transport buses in the Netherlands are electric.
